This 1/2day class will discuss the various health hazards and their routes of exposure in relation to silica exposures within the workplace. Participants will learn terminology and fundamental concepts essential to understanding and reducing and/or eliminating employee exposure to respirable silica dust in the general industry and construction fields. 1) Understand the hazards and health effects associated with respirable crystalline silica exposure. 2) Understand the state and federal compliance directives for respirable crystalline silica. 3) Understand and be able to apply resources provided by MIOSHA and federal OSHA in respect to the exposures of respirable crystalline silica during construction and general industry activities, tasks and operations in Michigan. 4) Describe how to control exposure to respirable crystalline silica in the work environment through work practices, engineering controls, and respiratory protection.
