Notice

Please read:  This film is entitled Cabeza de Vaca. Join us for an installation of our Mexican Film Festival series! In conjunction with celebrations of Dia de Muertos, and in partnership with Consulado de Mexico en Detroit, the Lorenzo Cultural Center is pleased to screen Mexican films on various dates this season. These programs will also include an opportunity for questions and discussion at the end of the film. This season’s series is a tribute to the Mexican Filmmaker Nicolás Echevarría, whose work has profoundly explored the cultural, historical, and spiritual origins that shape Mexican identity.

This film follows the story of Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca, who sets sail to Florida in 1528, with more than 500 men. The film laments the stories of hunger, disease, attack, slavery, and survival across eight years for Álvar and his group. The film will be shown with English subtitles
